March is women’s history month. To celebrate the women who have made a difference in our lives … and the lives of their Native nations, here’s an encore presentation of an interview from our archives. ICT Senior Producer Shirley Sneve has this very special conversation with her mother Virginia Driving-Hawk Sneve. The award-winning author shares her personal experience as a young woman attending boarding school in South Dakota.

  • New rules governing how institutions handle Native American human remains and artifacts is roiling tradition-bound museums. The new guidelines for the Native American Graves and Repatriation Act place Native voices at the forefront, causing many museums to make dramatic changes. ICT Producer Stewart Huntington has this report.
  • The University of New Mexico is celebrating a milestone for one of its degree programs. Its Bachelor of Arts degree in Native American Studies turns 20 this year. The university will hold a commemorative symposium next week.
  • A First Nations Olympic athlete is the latest to be inducted into the North American Indigenous Athletics Hall of Fame. Hockey player Kenneth Moore has been honored as one of Canada’s first Indigenous Olympic gold medalists.
  • The Shakopee Mdewakanton Sioux Community announced its partnership with Canadian company Launch-Pad Golf, in opening a new facility in Prior Lake, Minnesota. The range will be available for all skill levels and will be built next to the tribe’s Mystic Lake Casino Hotel and Golf Course.
