A former policy analyst is using her Indigenous cooking skills on the second season of PBS cooking competition “The Great American Recipe.” The show, Maria Givens says, is an opportunity to share food ways her people have been using for thousands of years. Vincent Moniz has more.

Abenaki tribes in Vermont worked for decades to gain recognition from the state and their efforts paid off beginning in 2011. Today, four tribes are recognized by the state, but recognition is only part of the effort to restore the presence of the area’s original inhabitants.
