Tribe opposed to Apostle Islands National Park status

Wisconsin seventh congressional district representative and gubernatorial candidate Tom Tiffany wants to elevate the status of 22 islands in northern Wisconsin from a National Lakeshore to National Park. But members of the nearby Red Cliff Band of Lake Superior Chippewa Indians are opposed to this, including Chairwoman Nicole Boyd. ICT and PBS Wisconsin Correspondent Erica Ayisi visited the site to learn more.
Countdown to Black Hills Powwow

With less than two weeks until the annual Black Hills Powwow, ICT met with organizers to discuss exciting, upcoming changes. The powwow brought in a record number of 1,800 dancers in 2025 and is expected to continue to grow when it returns this year on Oct. 9 in Rapid City, South Dakota.
New Native Art Collection At Phoenix Art Museum

The Phoenix Art Museum recently unveiled their largest acquisition of Native American art in the Museum’s history. Gifted from the William P. Healey Collection of Native American Art, the collection features work by 99 Indigenous artists representing 44 tribal nations, including Jaune-Quick-to-See Smith, Cara Romero, Harry Fonseca, Kay WalkingStick, and T.C. Cannon. The exhibition is available to see through July 17, 2027.
Indian Summer benefit brings dreams closer

It’s been seven years since the last Indian Summer Festival in Milwaukee. A new group of volunteers is working to revitalize the annual celebration through several fundraisers, the most recent of which kicked off Sept. 27 in nearby Waukesha, Wisconsin. ICT spoke to two board members about why the festival is so important and the new efforts to bring it back.
Indigenous fashion inspires from coast to coast; and the heartland

The second Indigenous New York Fashion Week featured 30 designers and 120 models. Jackie Bird, a Mandan, Hidatsa, Arikara and Dakota artist talks about her inspiration in fashion, dance and singing. She was part of a day-long celebration in Sioux Falls, South Dakota, that featured many performers, including Stella Standing Bear and Mato Wayuhi.
