The Native American Media Alliance announced yesterday they are accepting applications for the 3rd Annual Native American Writers Seminar taking place June through July, 2023. The seminar initiative is presented by the Native American Media Alliance in partnership with the Cherokee Nation Film Office.

“The Writers Seminar has been an incredible engine for emerging Native American writers to develop, polish and promote their scripted material.” announced Ian Skorodin, Director of Strategy for the Native American Media Alliance. “This program functions as the beginning step to our creative pipeline and has helped writers achieve staffing on current series.”

The Native American Writers Seminar is a month long intensive that develops emerging Native Americans writers for TV and film. The seminar also provides introductions to diversity development programs and uplifts indigenous storytellers in need of professional and creative mentorship. This initiative provides new access for Native Americans interested in breaking into writing for film and television.

The seminar will host approximately eight Native American writers to participate in a month long writers intensive. All participants chosen for the seminar will workshop an existing script through one-on-one mentoring, group sessions and industry meetings. The program provides intensive feedback and is accompanied by rigorous writing sessions.

In addition, the seminar will provide representatives from prestigious fellowships and successful participants of past writing programs. These speakers will share insight into career development and professional growth.

The purpose of the seminar is to provide an in-depth workshop for Native Americans with an existing script they can develop into a polished sample.
