Lia Abeita-Sanchez spends countless hours tending to the land on the traditional homelands of the Isleta people in New Mexico. She’s a New Mexico certified chile farmer. Lia Abeita-Sanchez competed in the 2023 New Mexico Chile Taste Off and won the title for best red chile.

Is it too early to start talking about Christmas? Not when it’s chile. Let’s take a deeper dive into this New Mexico staple with Lois Ellen Frank, who has a Ph.D. in culinary anthropology, and she owns Red Mesa Cuisine in Santa Fe.

Citizens of the Shoshone-Bannock nation came together recently to plant seeds. This is part of an effort for future generations to carry on traditional harvesting, while understanding the ties Native languages have to the land. Roselynn Yazzie reports from Idaho.

  • Sunny White has been arrested in connection with Mika Westwolf’s” death and has been charged with multiple felonies. Westwolf was killed in March by a vehicle while walking along a highway on the homelands of the Confederated Salish and Kootenai Tribes in Montana.
  • An auto dealership must pay $1 million for discriminating against Natives. Rhinelander Auto Center tacked on junk fees and boosted interest rates for Indigenous car buyers, according to the Wisconsin Department of Justice and federal regulators.
  • Day of the Dead, also known in some communities as All Soul’s Day, is a tradition that celebrates a generational connection to family. ICT’s “Daniel Herrera” has the story.
