Ho-Chunk citizen Talia Miracle is passionate about uplifting Indigenous communities. She believes in the life-changing power that books and literacy carry. As the program manager of Little Free Library she promotes book access, supports literacy outcomes and strengthens Indigenous communities across the U.S. and Canada.
Marie Zephier is a doctoral candidate in Indigenous health. The 2023 Bush Foundation fellow is passionate about helping people heal by reconnecting to their traditional ways. She is focused on increasing respect for the value and impact of traditional practices.
- Native small businesses get a boost through the Tribal State Small Business Credit Initiative. The money comes from the American Rescue Plan and provides $73 million to 39 Tribal governments.
- In Nevada, Indigenous nations continue to mobilize against a Lithium mine they say will harm wildlife habitats, degrade groundwater and pollute the air. ICT’s Vincent Moniz has this report.
- North Carolina is the latest state to protect and respect a Native student’s right to wear regalia at graduations. The American Indians Graduating With Honors Act was signed into law by Governor Roy Cooper after passing both legislative chambers unanimously.
- Cherokee bicyclists completed a 950-mile journey retracing the Trail of Tears. Ten riders ended the 2023 Remember the Removal Bike Ride with a homecoming ceremony in Tahlequah, the capital city of the Cherokee Nation in Oklahoma.
